What are generation forecasts?
Generation forecasts are predictions based on a variety of factors, such as weather forecasts, historical data, operating conditions and geographical conditions. They enable energy suppliers to plan and control their electricity generation and distribution more efficiently. In particular, accurate forecasts for renewable energies such as photovoltaics and wind power provide a necessary basis for planning additional generators to cover grid requirements. An inadequate forecast can lead to an oversupply or a bottleneck in the power supply if the power supply has to be ensured by other sources such as gas or combined heat and power plants. Accurate forecasting of renewable energy can contribute to the reduction of fossil fuels and reduce co2 emissions. It is therefore important that energy suppliers rely on precise generation forecasts – we at ifesca have developed our special ifesca.ENERGY® software for this purpose.
Why generation forecasts are so important
With the right information, operators of solar and wind power plants can better estimate their electricity production and take more targeted action. This means greater planning security and can also lead to a reduction in operating costs. At the same time, precise generation forecasts make an important contribution to promoting renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency by facilitating the integration of renewable energies into the electricity grid. With our expertise and our specialised forecasting models, we help you to realise these benefits and operate your energy systems optimally – and thus make an important contribution to sustainable energy management together with you.
Generation forecasts for PV & wind energy
At ifesca, we offer our customers from various sectors of the energy industry precise and data-supported generation forecasts for their photovoltaic systems, wind turbines and wind farms. This type of forecast is based on the technical data of the systems, meteorological data at the location and, if possible, on the historical feed-in time series. Our feed-in forecasts help you to calculate as accurately as possible and plan your long-term energy management accordingly, taking maximum sustainability into account.
Feed-in forecasts for photovoltaic systems
In order to create precise generation forecasts for PV systems, the location, technical data and historical measured values of the systems are required. We take into account all meteorologically relevant weather information for the exact location of the system. Initial set-up and forecasting is possible within a few minutes. In addition to the meteorological forecast for calculating output, a calibrated forecast can also be implemented using measured values, which helps to observe site-specific characteristics, recognise anomalies and rectify incorrect configurations.
iFESCA.ENERGY® OFFERS YOU:
- Automated import of all meteorological weather data
- Fully automated forecast generation
- Easy integration into any IT landscape as well as cloud solutions
- AI-based quality monitoring including fallback mechanisms & notification in case of falling forecast quality
- Individual scalability
Feed-in forecasts for wind power plants
Our software solution ifesca.ENERGY® also provides forecasts of the feed-in capacities of wind power plants and wind farms in the form of intraday and day-ahead forecasts. In contrast to other forecasting providers, we at ifesca simplify the forecasting process: Our software only works with the data from a single metering point, the total capacity and the average turbine lift height – eliminating the need for time-consuming processing of many individual turbine forecasts. For the intraday forecast, current meteorological observations are included in addition to the wind farm’s current measured values in order to significantly increase the quality of the forecast.
The feed-in forecast for wind turbines is based on predictions of wind speed and the performance of the installed turbine. We use historical data to determine correlations between wind direction, wind speed and other influencing variables in order to incorporate these into the forecast. By precisely recording the active phases, shutdowns can also be taken into account in the generation forecasts – this is useful, for example, in the case of planned maintenance or announced redispatch measures for a plant.
